Let me start by saying these are all very common mistakes. Trust me when I say, You are not the only one making them! The important thing is to stop doing them for the health of your hair.
1. Washing your hair every day!
This is a fast way to ruin your color and dry your hair depending on the product you are using to shampoo it. I recommend every other day at most. If you get extremely oily hair it could be from over shampooing and I recommend trying a dry shampoo until your scalp adjusts to the every other day washings.
2. Not using Heat Protection!
This may sound like a simple thing but honestly this is the most forgotten step in most guests hair routine. If you styling your hair regularly with heat this is a very important step. Heat damage can look almost as bad if not worse than color chemical damage.
3. Using too HIGH heat!
Did you know the melting point of hair is 400 degrees. Have you ever even looked at the heat setting on your styling tools? I recommend 370 degrees or less! And obviously heat protection!!!!
4. Too Much Hair Spray!
Aerosol hairspray is filled with alcohol to help the product dry faster as it lands on the hair. Alcohol will dry your hair so fast it will be like the Sahara Dessert! Hairspray can also leave a build up of product on the hair that is challenging to remove. If you are a hairspray junky I recommend trying a brand with out alcohol. I also recommend using banking soda in your shampoo every now and then to dissolve the hairspray build up on the hair.
5. Pulling your hair up too often!
If you know me at all you know that my hair is in a messy bun 95% of the time. This can cause damage very quickly. Especially if you are sleeping with it up. If you like to wear your hair up as often as I do, I recommend using clips or scrunchies. Please DO NOT use elastics or rubber bands. These get stuck in the hair and cause breakage very easily.
How many of these do you actually do? Chances are you do at least one. But that is okay! It can be difficult to keep up with all of the things we are "supposed" to do. However, if you are struggling with the condition of your hair there is a good possibility it is being caused by one of these 5 ways.
